Whats on My Bench

Hello and welcome back to Whats on My Bench with the JET Team. For this week’s edition we return my desk. And what do we find? Yes, another unfinished project!

This project comprises a length of kumihimo, which I made from Czech glass drops (I bought the drops from one of my favorite shops on the North Carolina coast).

Originally, I'd intended to make a bracelet of this kumihimo, as you can see above, it is really too large in circumference. Then I thought I could incorporate it as part of a necklace - using the copper chain and the Swarovski crystals, together with the remaining Czech glass drops and some other beads.

I have been sitting on the fence about that idea for over a year... yes, that's right - I said more than a year! I wonder whether this is another project I need to take apart. What do you think I should do?

Val

The beads are really pretty, but to be honest, I think even as a necklace it would seem kind of big. Is it possible to take it apart and use fewer beads for the circumference?

If you don't feel comfortabl with the current layout, I would take it apart and start from scratch. The beads are too pretty not to design something with them.

Finish it! Finish it, I say! And then show us the lovely results. :)

Pretty colors and sparkle! If you're like me, it would nag at you until you had it exactly as you want it. I think maybe taking it down (if possible) to half size and turning it into a beautiful necklace and earring set! You do beautiful work, Val!

The beads are too pretty to waste, Val...I have a feeling that even if you made the necklace with it, you wouldn't be happy. Sadly, methinks taking it apart and starting fresh would be the best use of your time and the beads :) Hope to see the re-freshed version soon!

Maybe a spiral design with smaller beads wouldn't make it so chunky, very pretty beads to waste!!

Just love it. Definitely a necklace. Please post a pic of the completed project - when it's done.

What pretty bead work! Isn't it discouraging when you hit a point and realize that this is not what you envisioned? I have no real design inspiration for you Val, but I like Michele's suggestion of a spiral.

You're so far along why not try the necklace idea out and put it out there!

I'd try the necklace idea and post it. If it doesn't sell in 4 months, then I'd take it apart and rework it. You might be surprised someone may look at it and decide they have to have it.

Sleep on it Val -but don't wait another year ;) and then go with your instincts.

Beautiful beadwork! I also would finish the necklace and post it, and see how it goes. Some folks like larger "statement" pieces, so it's size might be an asset.
