Jet of the Day - cooljewelrydesign

JOD time… again?  WOW!

The only new thing I have to report since last JOD citing is the addition of 4 new teams, bringing it to a grand total of 6 = you don’t see me as much as I would like to be here.  There is nothing like the JETs—the bonding, support, family, etc. that is forged over triumphs, sadness, life’s journey and toll.  I don’t know that a team exists, besides this one, which makes you spit coffee on your computer screen … one of the perks of being on a diverse and ticklish team—a cyber family who leads by example and lends advice freely.

As a lover of glass artists—whether Murano or lampwork, you will see me use either or both of these in my shop—fairly often.  I try to remember to put a footnote regarding both at the end of each description.  Gemstones are often less expensive than these handmade creations.

I have a huge respect for all glass artists and those who create lampwork are very special—it is, after all, its own art form.  So when a jewelry designer incorporates that into a creation, the buyer has the benefit and expertise of two artists.  I am very selective and the price tag will reflect that.

Carnivale - Tangerine - Pyrite - Sterling Silver Earrings
Beached - Eclectic Sand Dollar Lampwork Bracelet

Authentic Murano glass is impeccably made, and there is no substitute.  We all see *foil lined glass* and that's all it is.  I would just like to point out the  perils of purchasing "Murano" glass that is mass produced in China—it sure gives a Murano glass *appearance,* only thing is--it is not the real deal—which is a highly tuned craft and produced off the coast of Italy on the Island of Murano, a 5 minute boat ride from Venice.  So all sellers of this item who are *not* selling authentic Murano (Venetian) glass—and its derivatives—should at the very least say it is Murano inspired.  The price tag is a great way to ferret out the true glass.  I only purchase from trusted sources in EU or when I am there in person.

I never knew about the fakes floating around but it makes sense. Some are just so much more beautiful than others. Yours are always as spectacular as the creations you make with them.
Great post!

Thanks for the finer points of defining and authenticating true Murano! It is obviously not a term to be thrown around lightly. The lesson here: if it is true Murano, say so. If it is mass produced in the orient and resembles Murano, at least say "Murano inspired" or "Murano-like". We all like to know where our components originate if possible!
Thank you Pam♥
