People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.
- Dale Carnegie
Creating something as intricate and time-consuming as my Hand Painted Snow Globe Skiing Snowman Pendant requires patience, persistence, and passion. I would never create another one of these Snow Globe Pendants if I didn't truly enjoy the process. Each completed steps brings the vision a little closer to reality. Do the most of what you truly enjoy doing.
You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do.
- Henry Ford
I love this quote because it reminds me of my children. My husband and I are constantly reminding them (by our words as well as our actions) that you can't just want to do something, you need to do it.
My fabric Chocolate Easter Bunny is a prime example of "just doing it". I had an idea to create a fabric bunny, so I drew and cut out a pattern, cut the fabric, sewed, stuffed and sewed. I won't claim that it all worked on the first try as most things don't, but I am very proud of the end result. And I can clearly say, "I did it".
Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.
- Norman Vincent Peale
Amen! Confidence is a requirement when putting yourself (or your works) out there for the world to judge. Will everyone like what you create? Most certainly not. But knowing deep down that someone will understand and appreciate what you create will always keep you going.
I'm happiest when I'm painting & making jewelry at the same time. My Hand Painted Blue Eyed Woman Abstract Pendant Necklace is a perfect example of what makes me happiest as an artisan. Will everyone on the planet like my creation? Surely not, but I am confident enough in my creation that I'm willing to put it out there for everyone to see. Much of being an artisan requires us to "put ourselves out there".
So Have Fun! Do It! and be Boldly Creative!
