The Benefits of Joining a Team

I have never been the “join a team” type of person. I am an introvert and have trouble asking for help unless I am in a perilous situation.

I was selling my handmade jewelry in my Etsy.com store for about six months.  I should say, I was  “not selling” on Etsy for this time. I kept reading how sellers were quitting their day jobs and everything they did to achieve this.

So, following their suggestions, off I ventured into blogging, Facebooking, Tweeting and a lot of other activities I had never before considered or heard of. Sales were still slow, (on a good day.) Discouraged, I decided to try shaking it up one more way. I threw caution to the wind and applied and was accepted into the Jewelry on Etsy Team on Etsy.com

The Jewelry on Etsy Team, (JET), is the premier organized group of jewelery crafters and sellers on Etsy.com. Almost one hundred woman and one man make up this eclectic, cohesive, and very active group. Led by a Captain and three leaders, the JETs promote together, support, and educate each other; and laugh together on their forum that runs twenty four hours a day with their international membership.

The JETS hold contests, special promotions, and friendly competitions all year long. The JET leaders keep an alphabetical list of members from which they choose a daily, “Jet of the Day,” or JOD, to celebrate. On your JOD day, the entire team promotes you on Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon, Kaboodle, Style Hive, Treasuries and more. There is also a feature written  just for your store that day on the JET  Blog!

The JETs accept new members several times a year, but they do have a waiting list. Once you join, you start as a Jetling. In other words, you are assigned a mentor who helps you with all aspects of Etsy and the JETs. Smartly, the JETs require members to participate in the forum from time to time. This is great for me, otherwise my shyness may keep me from really taking part.  I could not be happier that I took a chance with a team.

I have made local friends and friends from all over the world, my store looks more professional, my photos are so much better, and my prices are higher. All due to the community of JETS. Sales are better for me on most days, and on the slow days, JETs keep my spirits up.

If you have been on the fence about joining an Etsy team, or maybe you are like me who thought I would never join a team. What is it they say is the definition of crazy? Oh yeah, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  Try challenging your fears and look into and apply to a team. There are hundreds of teams focused on anything you can think up as a common interest.  I bet you will find one that betters your Etsy experience. You may end up like me, now I am on three teams!

Jet of the Day: Eleven 13

Our Jet of the Day today is Michelle from Eleven13 .

I clearly have a weakness for animal prints; always have.  No New Jersey jokes please. So, the Eleven13 Etsy Banner speaks to me. And some of Michelle's animal print jewelry pieces are among my favorites.

Michelle creates many different styles of  highest quality, handmade, one of a kind, earrings, bracelets and pendants made with semi precious gemstones, fresh water pearls, Swarovski Crystals, sterling silver and 14K gold fill metals.

Leopard Print Glass Pendant with Gold Filled Chain
As much as I love  her earthy tones and wild, organic print jewelry,  this is only one small part of Michelle's aesthetic. She excels at many different types of jewelry design; including  metal and wire work and classic styles created with bold jewel-tone colored gemstones.

Hot Pink Chalcedony and Sterling Silver Necklace

Sterling Silver Purple Chalcedony Earrings
Green Chrysoprase Gemstone Set with Gold Filled Chain

Michelle clearly has the talent for choosing high quality colorful gemstones and pairing them perfectly in appealing jewelry designs. She is a self-taught jeweler, leading me to conclude; some are just born with this talent, innately.

This Labradorite, Fresh Water Pearl and Crystal Quartz bracelet is my favorite piece because it is the perfect combination of organic and bling for me.

(And these are the earrings I would pair  with my favorite bracelet)

Green Turquoise Earrings with Gold Filled Metals
Michelle gains much satisfaction from her customer's happiness with their purchase. To this end, she truly creates something for everyone. If you do not find something perfect in Eleven13, (chances are you will find more than one perfect piece,) please contact Michelle for a custom order.

Petite Blue Iolite Gemstone Necklace with 14k Gold Filled Metals

Gold Vermeil Triple Hoop earrings

There is too much to show you here, so I challenge you to visit Eleven13 and see if you can choose just one thing!

You can find more of Michelle around The Web at Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.

Jet of the Day: Debra's Divine Designs

Our Debra, of Debra's Divine Designs  is the Jet of the Day today. She has become well known for her remarkable butterfly pendants, but she has also honed her talents in
in many other jewelry media. First, a delight for your eyes, then, more about this artist.

Important Disclaimer
ALL butterflies  used are farmed and not wild caught so that the natural populations of the butterflies are not being depleted by poachers. This dried insect was purchased through a permitted and licensed dried bug supplier. Debra purchases broken bugs that collectors can't use and utilizes them in her artwork.Through her art, this provides an opportunity for to promote stewardship and conservation of each Butterfly and to educate people about the risks that many are facing.

As I mentioned, Debra, a self-taught artist, creates beauty with any material she touches!  Her collections range from her signature real winged butterfly pendants, to  Copper wire work; argentium sterling silver twisted bracelets; and  fused  and dichroic glass.

Here she works fused glass. In these little glass earrings, Debra worked with clear glass and sprinkled  just a bit of crushed red glass (frit) in between the layers of the glass. She then kiln-heated and annealed the pieces  to form these lovely glittery, clear, light-filled earrings.

Debra is incredibly skilled in wire work too. This Blue Skies Sterling Silver Bezel Weave Pendant combines her glass-work with a hand woven wire bezel.

In every collection, Debra is devoted to  creating with nothing less than complete artistic integrity and the finest of materials.

Round Turquoise Pendant Wrapped with Woven Copper
Speaking of integrity, Debra created a line of copper hearts  to raise money for the Japanese Disaster Relief Efforts. She is donating 100% to the cause! The hearts are spectacular and the cause is desperate. What are you waiting for? Guilt free shopping for a great cause.

Now that you have paid your taxes, it is time to get ready for Mother's Day!
Debra is offering 20% off everything in her Etsy.com shop. Just add Coupon Code "FORMOM2011" to your order to get the discount. Deb promises not to tell if you use the coupon on  something special for yourself:)

Debra's Divine Designs is a very special shop filled with artistic, handmade bracelets, necklaces, pendants, earrings and more. Go there today, support Japan, or use your coupon on a "pick me up". You will be so happy.
