Sunday Style - Modern Turquoise

Hello and welcome to our newest JET Team feature, Sunday Style!

My name is Lori from Dashery, and each week I will be bringing you a fresh selection of stylish fashion and accessories. For today's edition, I was inspired by Cate Blanchett’s stunning look at the Oscars awards ceremony. What could have been a safe, rather boring black dress was elevated by a bold statement-making turquoise bib necklace, accented with aquamarines and diamonds.

What I noticed about Cate's necklace, and other turquoise jewelry worn at previous events, is that they have a modern edge to them. Modern means smooth stones with minimal metal. The stones are in the Sleeping Beauty Mine or Tiffany Box blue, with little matrix inclusions. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that Blanchett’s necklace is that color, since it was created by Tiffany’s!

The modern components create a much dressier look than, say, a southwestern squash blossom necklace. Since most of us don’t wear gowns worth tens of thousands dollar on a regular basis, I would also love to see this pop of color scaled down and worn with a romantic white gauzy tunic (1), or a black skater dress (2). The bracelet (3) from BeadzNBling has the same organized chaos feel as the Tiffany’s necklace. On the more modern end, we have pendant necklaces such as those by TraceDesigns (5) and Eleven13 (6). Accessorise with a handmade black deerhide purse (4) from LambornLeatherDesign.

The turquoise earrings (7) from Foret have the feel of Cate Blanchett's necklace, because of the addition of aquamarine, and they would look stunning with a black gown, like the silk one (9) from ElikaInLove. Splash out on a flirty hat (8) from MarcusArtandFashion, or jazz up an old pair of heels with a rhinestone kit (10) from ShoeBottoms. Finally, pop on some bracelets that feature turquoise accenting black, like the ones from ChristalDreamz (11) and cooljewelrydesign (12).

We hope you enjoyed our first Sunday Style. See you next week!
Lori
