Sunday Style - Let the Sun Shine
Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday Style with the JET Team!
When I was a teenager, I had a fabulous bright yellow jacket. It was long, had a tie belt, and big yellow buttons. It also was the brightest yellow on the planet. I don’t know if it was partially flattering, but it always made me feel good. On a rainy, grey day, it just felt like sunshine and happiness. I think that feeling is why bright yellow is having a moment right now- a very bright shining moment! The dazzling yellow of daffodils and lemons and sunshine is just so happy and optimistic. It’s a bold color, to be sure!
If you are feeling daring, try this adorable and trendy shorts suit (1) from VillageChic. Add cooljewelrydesign's honey yellow bracelet (2) and a pair of yellow and black lampwork earrings (3) from BeadsMe for instant color and style.
Have a little fun with some gladiator style lace up sandals in bright yellow leather (4) from HolyCowproducts, and let YourDailyJewels' silver teardrop necklace with a yellow topaz stone (5) peek out from the neckline of the jacket. You can even paint your nails with Funshine Smoothie (6) from ILoveNP!
This bright sunny yellow may be a little too bright for everyone to wear head to toe. I’d love to see this color used to punch up a Little White Dress (LWD). SisterOrganics makes a lovely LWD (7) out of organic cotton voile and sateen, with a touch of lace at the cuff and hem.
Punch it up with beautiful yellow agate stacking bracelets (8) from NancysCrystalFantasy and fun yellow butterfly wing earrings (9) by DebrasDivineDesigns. Add some whimsical fun with a Kentucky Derby hat (10) from BoringSidney, and some sophistication with an eyelet lace clutch wallet (11) from PeteandPaul.
Bright yellow also looks great with denim, whether it’s your favorite pair of worn-in jeans or something new for the season like this short sleeved scoopneck denim dress (12) from shopwonderland. Wear it with Malves1009’s beaded cross bracelet (13) and GemstonesOnMyMind’s yellow chalcedony necklace (14) for a shot of that warm, sunny color.
For some sunshine by your face, add LoveStoneArts’ crystal copper earrings (15). Toss a bucket bag (16) from morelle over your shoulder, and finish the look off with strappy yellow leather sandals (17) from TheMerakiCompany. You're set to go!
See you next week,
Lori

Make a Russian Wedding Ring
The JET Team has a very special treat for metalsmiths this week, as team member & silversmith Tracy of EmmalynnJewellery shares a step-by-step guide to making her most popular item, this sterling silver Russian Wedding Ring
Now stand back and admire your beautiful new Russian Wedding Ring!

Russian Wedding Ring by EmmalynnJewellery |
How to Make
- Choose a length of 12 gauge, half round, sterling silver wire.
- Using callipers, measure 3 pieces of wire to form the ring. Make the rings one size larger than you require, to compensate for them tightening when you intertwine them. My calipers leave a faint mark on the metal, showing me where to cut with my jeweller’s saw.
- Use half round pliers to bend the wire and shape into 3 round rings. Half round pliers have one flat side and one rounded side and are perfect for forming the inside of rings.
- Flux and solder each ring. Tip: I use my third hand.
- Using a ring mandrel, hammer each of the rings into a round shape.
- You now have 3 individual rings, and what I do next may seem like a backward step! Carefully cut two of the rings open using a jewellers saw, then intertwine the rings together
- Re-solder the 2 cut rings in their final position. This cut and re-solder step gives the best results, because it's very difficult to obtain perfectly round rings once they’re all soldered together!
- Double check the ring size
- File and sand the ring smooth
- Tumble with a little bit of dish soap
Now stand back and admire your beautiful new Russian Wedding Ring!

Wednesday Kitchen - Essie Miller's Weakfish
Welcome back to Wednesday Kitchen, featuring favourite recipes from members of the JET Team!
Our recipe today comes from multi-talented team member and author Mollie of RoughMagicCreations, who created it especially for one of the books she wrote with Joe, The Theatre Lover's Cookbook: Recipes from 60 Favorite Plays.
Our recipe today comes from multi-talented team member and author Mollie of RoughMagicCreations, who created it especially for one of the books she wrote with Joe, The Theatre Lover's Cookbook: Recipes from 60 Favorite Plays.
"Back in the day, when my husband Joe and I were writing books on subjects theatrical, we put together a couple of theatre related cookbooks. For these, we'd choose a variety of plays in which food is mentioned or served, add a few introductory comments, and create our own recipe to fit each scenario.
Ah, Wilderness! Eugene O'Neill's only comedy, written in 1933, presents a nostalgic and bittersweet picture of American family life. Act II takes place in the dining room of the Miller home, where Mrs. Miller is talking with her husband Nat's sister Lily.
Mrs. Miller: Well … you know how Nat carries on about not being able to eat bluefish. Lily: I know he says there's a certain oil in it that poisons him. Mrs. Miller: Poisons him, nothing! He's been eating bluefish for years -- only I tell him each time it's weakfish ... Lily: Aren't you ashamed, Essie? Mrs. Miller: Not much, I'm not! I like bluefish!
And so may you!"
Essie Miller's Weakfish
- 2 whole bluefish*, about 1.5 pounds each, cleaned and filleted (*Substitute salmon if you prefer)
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine, well softened
- 1 teaspoon anchovy paste
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh onion juice
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- Cayenne pepper, to taste
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh lemon slices, for garnish
- Preheat the broiler.
- Place the fillets, skin side down, on a well greased broiler rack and cook, without turning, for about 6 minutes.
- While the fish broils, combine the butter, anchovy paste, onion and lemon juice and cayenne pepper in a small bowl and blend thoroughly.
- Remove the fish from the broiler to a warm serving platter or individual plates, skin side down.
- Spread with the butter mixture, sprinkle with salt and pepper and garnish with the lemon slices.
- Serve with boiled new potatoes, a crisp steamed vegetable and crusty whole grain bread.
- And if you like wine, I suggest a crisp, dry white.
A Note. In the Broadway production of Ah, Wilderness!, the role of Nat Miller was played by George M. Cohan of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" fame.
Enjoy!
Mollie
