Jet of the Day - Designs by Cher

Boho Chic Long Gypsy Fringe Necklace

My name is Cher, and I'm addicted to beads, gemstones and all that jewelry making entails... for which I blame my sister, Deb, lol

Teal Apatite Antiqued Copper Necklace
When I went for a visit about 12 years ago, she had just taken a beading class and showed me the basics. Then she took me for an online trip thru ebay and once I saw all the beautiful Swarovski crystals, lampwork glass beads and dichroic glass, I was hooked... and I haven't stopped since!

So while I began my little business with beaded crystal and glass jewelry designs (which I still love, as evidenced by my overwhelming supplies inventory), I've expanded my tastes and materials ... to gemstones, wire wrapping, wirework and in the past year or two, metalwork... and that has become a passion.

Antiqued Copper and Pyrite Earrings
Antique Copper Marquis Quartz Pendant
Of course gold filled and sterling silver, but my real love is working with brass and copper... plus if I screw up while experimenting with it, I don't have to cry myself to sleep over the dollars lost to the scrap pile, lol!

I find it very satisfying to take a simple piece of wire, bending and forming it into an interesting shape, hammering (very theraputic too, btw), oxidizing and buffing it by hand, giving it a unique character all its own. With the proper tools, you can manipulate metal and make it do whatever you want and I love nothing better than to play with wire, which often results in a happy accident that surprises even me ;)

Antique Copper with Cats Eye Briolette and Adjustable Chain
I did some experimenting and found that "cooking" some metals gives them an entirely different color than when in their natural state, even different than a liver of sulphur patina... altho I do like the resulting colors that presents too, but heat provides an entirely different effect.

Antique Copper Scrollwork Earrings with Floating Turquoise Focal
To that end, I've enjoyed making my own style of earwires, clasps and pendants in different metals for my own jewelry designs, then found that other jewelry designers like them too, so I've expanded to creating them for sale in my Etsy shop.

I'll stop rambling now and show you a few of my favorite metalwork creations...
pendants and necklaces

Teal Blue Antique Copper Asymmetrical Necklace
Berry Purple Turquoise Necklace
Antique Copper Pearl Earrings with Keishi and Baroque Pearls

So, if you see something you like here... cruise on by my etsy shop and do some browsing ;) Thank you for reading!
