Susan goes Bead Hunting ... In Murano!

Susan of cserpent  went to one of our dream destinations ... Murano! Famous for the glass beads that have been made there for generations, this is a spot most jewelry makers would love to explore! Here's a quick look at the supplier she visited and what she found there ... Sounds like fun!

In February I visited Italy for the first time. Since I'm a jewelry designer I had to visit the island of Murano and see if I could find some gorgeous Venetian Murano glass beads to use in my designs. I was fortunate enough to contact a bead maker (Maurizio) and he let me dig through his boxes and boxes of beads. He had just moved his studio and hadn't started unpacking yet!

The very inconspicuous entrance to Maurizio's studioMe, my mom and mom-in-law
starting to dig through boxes of beads!
From those humble surroundings come beautiful beads and here are some used in designs by my fellow Jewelry on Etsy Team members ...

  21. It's a fabulous place, isn't it Susan?! I was last in Murano a couple of years ago and spent a fortune (the downside of being a beadaholic!) How wonderful that you were able to rummage through Maurizio's boxes, can't wait to see what you produce with your purchases!

  22. OMG Susan, what a dream come true...the closest I came to that was Tuscany...not exactly Murano...but I also purchase only authentic glass. What an awesome trip, and you *fell* into a miracle. Thanks for sharing!
