Jet of the Day: Emotional Oasis

We all know and love this Jet of the Day as EMO!

Her given name is Kerri Lynn and she is the creative mind and hands behind Emotional Oasis on Etsy.com. The JETs have more than 100 members and the success of this team is greatly due to Emo's care and hard work. She is our Captain!  I speak on behalf of our team when I say, Emo, you are so important to us for many reasons. Creative expertise aside; your dedication to the team, hard work, smarts, and humor do not go unappreciated!

Emo is a fused glass artisan. Many of her glass pieces  reflect the nature all around her in her native Northern Minnesota. Emo draws inspiration and strength from the many lakes, rivers, and  forests she has grown up with.  Her passion for nature is apparent throughout her body of work. .

To create the  art you see in Emotional Oasis,  glass is fused and annealed by slowly bringing it to 1550 degrees and then cooling it in a controlled kiln. This ensures strength & durability.

The process goes beyond the melting of different colors and layers of glass together into one piece.  Emo adds her hallmark artistic touch by adding other elements, such as fusible paint, metal shavings, iron powder, gold leafing, and decals to further transforms the glass.

Here,  Emo created the illusion of a framed pendant.  This one of a kind design reminds me of one of Emo's favorite quotes:

"Experimentation, not adaptation, feeds the soul of a true artist."

Emotional Oasis is one of the few JET shops that truly caters to men as well as women. The  glass cufflinks are a perfect gift for the man who is impossible to buy for. And Emo's glass accented flasks and money clips are lovely and personal gift ideas.

I am crazy about Emo's home decor and  the organic feel of the  many colors and textures in the hand crafted glass dishes and bowls she makes. I hope she expands this line!

As for the dish itself, it was made by fusing layers of art glass together into a tile form. Once the tile was fused, it was then draped over a mold & refired (kiln annealed) to ensure strength & durability.
